| Description: |
Counsilman-Hunsaker was commissioned by the University of Chicago to design a state-of-the-art, Olympic-sized pool to accommodate its swimming and diving programs while also allowing for growth.
The Myers-McLoraine Natatorium includes:
• 12,640 SF 50-meter competition pool • Moveable bulkhead, allowing for 50-meter, 25-meter, or 25-yard courses • Starting blocks that can be mounted on the pool’s ends or sides for long- or short-course • Diving well • One-meter springboards and two three-meter springboards • Plenty of upper-deck bleacher seating
In June 2006, the Myers-McLoraine Natatorium received Recreation Management magazine’s ‘Innovative Architecture’ award for outstanding design. In 2004, Midwest Construction honored the aquatics facility with a design award, and Athletic Business magazine featured the project as an ‘Architectural Showcase.’
