| Description: |
Completed in 1995 to host the 1996 Summer Olympics swimming and diving competitions, the world-class outdoor freestanding venue featured a ten-lane, 50-meter x 25-meter pool with two bulkheads and movable floor. There was also a diving well with ten-meter tower.
The pool was carefully constructed with special design considerations to ensure the proper amount of water flow through bulkheads. Overflow gutters and floor inlets were installed, and floating lane dividers were designed to minimize wave action, which created optimal racing conditions and made the facility one of the world’s fastest pools.
In 2004, Counsilman-Hunsaker, in association with Hastings & Chivetta Architects, completed design modifications to convert the freestanding shelter into an indoor award-winning natatorium. A leisure pool was also part of the project, which includes a lazy river, waterslide, lap lanes, vortex and underwater bench.
