| Description: |
Counsilman-Hunsaker, in association with Cannon Design, was selected by Boston University to design a natatorium to meet the needs of the school’s growing aquatic program. The resulting design included three bodies of water: competition pool, leisure pool, and spa.
The competition pool was designed as a 25-yard pool, 10 to 16 lanes, divided by a moveable bulkhead to also include a diving area. The bulkhead can be adjusted to create a 25-meter or 25-yard pool. The diving well was designed with a one-meter and three-meter springboard and can also be converted into lap lanes. The water has a depth that slopes from 7ft. to 13.5 ft. and a temperature of 80 degrees, each appropriate for water polo, synchronized swimming, diving, training, and competing.
The second pool is a 5,000 sq. ft. recreational pool and features:
•Current channel •Water basketball •Underwater hydro benches •Three 20-yard fitness lap lanes •ADA-accessible zero-depth entry ramp
The recreation pool is maintained at 86 degrees, suitable for therapy use. The natatorium also contains a 15 person hot water spa.
