Architect's Information
The
Professionals
Counsilman-Hunsaker has worked with over 400 architectural firms since its
founding in 1970. These are local firms, national firms, foreign firms and
international firms. We are engineers and architects licensed in the majority
of states and counting. Our client base is almost entirely architects. Many
with long histories with Counsilman-Hunsaker and some first-time
collaborations. Our success with project
architects is based upon our understanding that our mission is to provide a
result that is exceptional within our assigned budget and to minimize needless
motion among the other design team members. We accomplish this
objective by using proven protocols that help the owner identify its needs and
prioritize those needs. We build a decision-making environment during the early
phases of planning. We explain the design and construction process for aquatic
facilities and how the owner representatives have an important responsibility.
We've
Done This Before!
Technical disciplines are key to coordination. Teamwork between our designers,
engineers, and CAD technicians allows Counsilman-Hunsaker to develop an action
plan and execute that plan with discipline and expertise. When this kind of
collaboration exists with the owner, architect and the design team, the result
is beneficial to the project, the owner and the community. Counsilman-Hunsaker,
unless told otherwise, designs your projects for a 55 year + life. Both
physical and functional. It's really the right way.
We are a national firm, and our construction administration is based upon
decades of experience with swimming pool contractors, local contractors,
general contractors and construction managers in different market areas.
Observation visits, review and approval of submittals and communication with
members of the design team and the owner benefit from Counsilman-Hunsaker's
in-house protocols developed with all kinds of projects.
Commissioning and Closeout
Commissioning and closeout is key to a smooth completion because all equipment
must operate properly and reliably. During close out, Counsilman-Hunsaker
confirms that the pools are constructed as per the intentions of the plans and
specifications with a final report to the owner. Likewise, Counsilman-Hunsaker
is available for a one-year pre-warranty anniversary examination.
How Will We Assist You:
If your architectural firm is commissioned to create an aquatic development,
whether it be a public leisure pool, a water park or an international
competition venue, Counsilman-Hunsaker can assist your Design Team by:
-
Conducting a project-envisioning workshop with conceptualizing to develop an
in-depth program consensus of design and operations for all participants for
short and long-term goals.
-
Developing a schematic design of pools and support spaces coordinated with the
design team members plus providing source information to the architect and the
owner for decision milestones.
-
Creating design development documents for the design team which can be
presented to the owner's steering committee for response and approval.
-
Developing construction, bid and contract documents that are created with
the design team and the owner's steering committee. Counsilman-Hunsaker's
technical plans and specifications by licensed professionals are considered by
many to be the best in the industry resulting in tighter bids, fewer change
orders, less contingencies and easiest to understand. The result is a high
quality facility at fair market prices for the owner resulting in lower life
cycle costs.
-
Executing construction administration, which is more than observing the
building of the complex. It is really about the coordination of many steps by
many different trades and disciplines. Like those above, this requires an
understanding of the means, methods and techniques that contractors use in the
field.
-
Being at the site for the close-out and the handover to the owner's
operators is not only crossing the goal line but it is also the beginning of a
tradition, a landmark and a place where future memories will be born, whether a
child learning to swim, the first ride down a waterslide or a world record
performance.
Aquatics Operations Services
Today's swimming facilities, like most things, are more complex than those that
have been in operation for 30 years or more. Likewise, operators of new pools
and their support features require a new level of hands-on training.
Counsilman-Hunsaker can provide such participatory training on site with the
new systems. Job-specific training aids are used and site-specific instructions
are provided for the new staff. This reduces call backs and a trial and error
learning curve.
The Facility Audit
Many existing facilities appear to be on the brink of demise but frequently
there are years left of productive life. If critical repairs are made to the
systems and/or structure, a new generation of users can benefit at a fraction
of the cost of a new facility. Counsilman-Hunsaker's evaluation of an
existing pool and/or natatorium can provide a valuable professional analysis of
what can be done to extend the life to the users and the programs of the owner.
Different components of a swimming pool, as well as a natatorium, have
different life spans. The building structure and the swimming pool shell have
one life cycle as compared to that of pumps, motors, filters and piping. Often
times owners misread the symptoms of an aging complex and their implications.
Counsilman-Hunsaker can bring these causes and their significance into focus
for the pro-active owner.
